I often get problems with my neck. It hurts and gives me headaches, especially if I haven’t slept enough or if I get cold. Therefore I always wear a scarf around my neck to keep it from getting cold. This means I need a lot of scarves so it’s a good thing I’m a knitter.
This fall I’ve been joining Cindy Garland’s mystery knit along Gateway to Fall. It ended up being a two coloured lacy rectangular shawl with beads. I think it’s very pretty.
The lace develops gradually and ends with a lace border on one side. The colours are the colours for this fall, the combination of orange and green, that I happen to be a little obsessed with. With this shawl though, I think I’ve got it out of my system. The yarn is Malabrigo sock, colours Lettuce and Terracota.
I would have wished it to be a little bigger but that’s totally my fault, partly because I’m perhaps not a tight knitter but not a loose one either, and partly because I couldn’t find a free 4 mm (US 6) needle so I used a 3.75 mm (US 5) instead. If I make another one I think I will try with a 4.5 mm (US 7) needle instead.
When I got the first clue I was a bit bored, it was just endless rows of stockinette stitch but as the clues kept coming I got longer and longer bits of lace and could add more and more beads and it was totally worth the wait.
I love the beads. They look like little peas and I think they work very well together with the orange. A great fall shawl and drapes so nicely around my neck and warms it to keep the headaches at bay.
